I really thought purchasing tickets with Head Out would be easy, and it was, but if I ever knew the cost is double, I would not have ever purchased the tickets here. The Monastery is not that big and you could not explore the whole monastery. You charged 20 euros por the experience and it is not woth it at all

I really liked the monastery and the audio guide explained details and curiosities, but part of it I could not use because the rooms were closed.

Beautiful cloister, the presbytery itself is not open to visitors. A smartphone app was used as an audio guide, and there were a few disparaging remarks from the on-site staff (including one who reproached me for being on the phone while I was listening to the famous audio guide...). In short, a very average experience for this UNESCO listed monument...

I really liked the monastery and enjoyed the visit but what I did not like is that despite having purchased a ticket in advance, the lines are huge and slow. I would like in the future to have the possibility to buy the visit to be able to enter at specific times.

Audio tour segments were very helpful. Portions of the tour were inaccessible due to restoration and that made the directions confusing. Also, tickets should have come with warning that the entry line was quite long ... Even with tickets. Worth the wait though and I'm very glad I included this stop.

What to bring

It's recommended to cover your shoulders and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Please carry your earphones for the best audio experience.
Bring hats/caps, a bottle of water, and shades to beat the heat.

What's not allowed

You need an Android (version 5.0+) or iOS smartphone for the audio tour at the monastery. It won't work on Windows Phones, older iPhones/iPads/iPods.
Strict dress code: Please note that off-shoulder tops, dresses, and knee-high shorts are not recommended.
Keep in mind food & beverages and large bags or backpacks are not allowed on this experience.
Visitors are not allowed to take photographs in some parts of the monastery.

Accessibility

There is medium accessibility for guests with reduced mobility.
The lower level has wheelchair access though some sections are cobblestoned.

Additional information

Digital audio guide is available in English, French, German, or Spanish.
Entry to the church is free for residents of Portugal on Sundays and public holidays.
With disability proof, you can avail up to 60% off on entry.
The Jerónimos Monastery remains closed on Monday, 1st January, Easter Sunday, 1st May, and 25th December.
The Monastery is closed between 9:30am and 1pm on October 24th and December 5th.
Please note that guests may have to wait in queue for a long time before entering the venue.
