Marvel at Roman tunnels and the grandeur of the Acqua Augusta Campaniae aqueduct, designed to supply water to the city of ancient Naples.
From ancient theater to wartime hideout
Beneath the Church of San Lorenzo Maggiore in Naples lie the captivating remains of the Roman Theater, a cultural gem dating back to ancient Roman times. As you explore this underground marvel, you'll encounter fragments of the seating area and the stage, offering a glimpse into the vibrant performances that once graced the theater. A recent rediscovery adds an exciting dimension with the Summa Cavea, the uppermost part of the seating area.
You will also learn that during World War II, the underground cavities of Naples served a crucial role as illuminated shelters against aerial bombings.
