The Enchanting Exteriors

Drive through the Bavarian countryside as you approach the range of the Alps and can see the towers of Hohenschwangau. Soon, arrive at Hohenschwangau village which is the starting point for Hohenschwangau Castle. Meet your guide and walk towards the entrance of this Neo-Gothic castle built by the then-Bavarian ruler, King Maximilian II. The yellow walls and traditional medieval design of the exterior immediately grab your attention. Your guide will tell you how the design of the castle is in Biedermeier style and contains more than 90 murals by German history painters such as Moritz von Schwind and Ludwig Lindenschmit.

Inside the Hohenschwangau Castle

As soon as you step in, Hohenschwangau Castle’s interior walls and ceilings with frescoes and carvings depict German and Bavarian history. Every room you enter is finished and well-managed with Gothic decorations, especially the oriental room and hall of heroes and knights. Hear more about the history and importance of each room through an audio guide in 12 languages.

Gardens of Hohenschwangau Castle

As much as you will love the interiors of this magnificent castle, the gardens will also enrapture your hearts with the same charm. The eye-catching swan fountain with multi-layered circular bushes highlights the gardens.
