Your Experience
Your Experience
The South Cappadocia Tour (Green Tour) will take you through some of the most impressive scenery of the region. You will also get to see an underground city - it is said that the Christians who populated this area created several of these cities when they were fleeing persecution back in the 14th century. Follow your tour guide and be amazed at the architecture of these dwellings, which include levels that separated the house from schools, cellars, and even animal stables. Admire the labyrinth of rock houses that make up Cavusin Village. Observe how the locals dug into these rocks to create their own homes, some of which date back several centuries.
See one of the largest rock formations in Cappadocia at the center of Uchisar. Known as the Castle of Uchisar, it offers amazing views over the whole region and even as far as the Erciyes Mountains. At Meskendir Valley, enter the small church that has a ceiling carved out into a cross formation adorned in geometric red frescos. Learn about the history of the church from your friendly guide. Look at life through rose-colored glasses when you visit Red Valley, named after the colored rock formations that lend it a predominantly red color. Located nearby is the Rose Valley, home to scattered vineyards and gardens. If you’re lucky enough to spot them, the locals who are working here will give you a taste of their products!
At Pigeon Valley, local farmers used to farm using pigeon manure, a rich resource of fertilizer for their crops and soil. You’ll even see pigeon houses that have been carved into the rock faces over the centuries. Your journey for the day will also take you through Love Valley. The rock formations here are phallic in shape, giving the valley the name of love. Formed naturally by the erosion of volcanic rock, the valley is made up of cones, pillars, pinnacles, mushrooms, and the well-known fairy chimneys.
