Etter å ha besøkt Pompeii noen dager tidligere bestemte vi oss for å klare oss uten guide denne gangen og bare utforske Herculaneum på egen hånd. Det var så mye fredeligere enn Pompeii, og det er utrolig hvor komplette bygningene er. Man kan virkelig se hvor vakkert det ville ha vært å bo her. Vi likte virkelig besøket vårt her. Vi hadde forhåndsbestilt billetten, så det var bare å rusle rett inn, noe som var flott.

Disse billettene var en drøm. Jeg kjøpte dem på nettet kvelden før, og billettene ga oss adgang til Herculaneum når som helst i løpet av dagen. Vi ankom rundt kl. 11.30, og vi kom rett inn, uten køer eller venting. Jeg elsket Herculaneum, det er så godt bevart og er mye mindre enn Pompeii, så det er ikke like overveldende. Det ligger i bunnen av en ås, så vær oppmerksom på at det er litt av en spasertur hvis du må tilbake til togstasjonen til en bestemt tid!

Herculaneum er et sted som gjør inntrykk og stimulerer fantasien. For ikke så lenge siden lå alle disse bygningene flere meter under jorden. I dag lar de oss se med egne øyne hvordan denne antikke byen virkelig så ut. De fleste av bygningene som presenteres her, er bevart i så god stand at når du går i Herculaneums gater, kan du føle at du befinner deg i en ekte by der livet fortsatt pågår. Jeg kommer til å huske tiden jeg tilbrakte i Herculaneum i lang tid fremover. Ved å kjøpe billetter via Headout fikk man direkte adgang til den arkeologiske parken.

Den beste sightseeingen med fenomenal innsikt i livet til de gamle romerne. Hercaluneum ble gravd ut under flere meter vulkansk aske og lava. Det var enda nærmere vulkanutbruddet som oppslukte Pompeii. Her får du komme nærmere utgravningen, og utgravningen er ikke særlig omfattende. Likevel er freskene og mosaikkene vakrere enn i Pompeii. Likevel er et besøk i Pompeii også svært interessant. Prisen er rundt 14 euro for voksne.
