The Story

Candide, the illegitimate nephew of Baron Thunder-ten-Tronck, grows up in 18th-Century Westphalia, alongside the Baron's stepchildren and a servant girl, under the optimistic tutelage of the philosopher Dr Pangloss. Life, however, has much in store for the young Candide, and as he learns of the world's deceitful nature, his faith and optimism is tested.
