Why Watch Turandot
Why Watch Turandot
An Italian composer who was considered to be one of the greatest of his time, Giacomo Puccini was well-known for his ‘10 Beautiful Operas’. Three of them are among the top 10 operas performed across the globe. Turandot is one such opera. It was the last opera that he ever composed and was event left unfinished due to his untimely death. Every rendition of this opera has an interesting take on how it should have ended, making it a fresh experience each time. Watch the famous conductors Christian Badea and Leonardo Sini return to Australia, all set to conduct a fabulous cast including Lise Lindstrom, Yonghoon Lee, and Karah Son. This legendary opera of Puccini’s traces the story of a savage princess and a lion-hearted suitor who is ready to sacrifice anything in exchange for her love.
This rendition of Turandot is a highly theatrical and visually striking production created by the choreographer and director Graeme Murphy AO. He skillfully uses hues, flow, and the power of movement to create dramatic motifs on stage, and brings out a quaint and irresistible beauty that Puccini himself hoped to capture.
The Story

He is presented with the riddles, and to Turandot’s shock, the prince successfully answers all of them. Watching Turandot despair, the prince decides to take pity on her and offers the brutal princess a riddle. How will the princess answer the riddle? What fate awaits the selfish prince?
