About Peleș Castle
Built in the late 19th century, Peleș Castle was once the summer palace of the Romanian royal family. Its magnificent Neo-Renaissance architecture, opulent interiors, exquisite artefacts, verdant gardens, and stunning mountain setting attract nearly half a million tourists each year.
Built with its own power plant on the castle grounds, Peleș Castle was the first European castle to have electricity and heating.
The construction of Peleș Castle was completed in 10 years, from 1873 to 1883. However, several significant additions, especially to its interiors, were made over the next 30 years up to 1914, when it was finally marked as completed.
More than 600 workers were employed to carve the wooden furnishings, decorations, and furniture throughout Peleș Castle.
Why visit Peleș Castle?
Plan your visit
Visitors must leave their backpacks, umbrellas, and any other personal items in the cloakroom.
Peleș Castle is partially accessible for wheelchair users. The ground floor is wheelchair accessible, but the upper floors do not have wheelchair access. This is why guided tours that cover multiple floors of the castle are not considered wheelchair-friendly. There is also a special accessible parking area. But visitors must inform the castle in advance if they need to use it.
