Becky our guide was fantastic. She has great knowledge and insight into the cemetery and the people buried here. Also of French history. The route taken was very enjoyable and gave a lovely overview of the cemetery. Doing a guided tour is a great idea to see the highlights and experience the cemetery.

Carol, our guide, was very engaging and was able to field questions from the group. Just a lovely day to spend time with some of the French immortals who shaped so much of the music, Art, and literature. We were able to spend time with Carol after the formal tour, and she was able to shed some additional highlights and answered more of my questions. Would recommend this tour highly if you seek information about the past history of France.

Carole was very enthusiastic, despite the bad weather. The tour was very informative, and it was easy to follow. We are very glad we decided not to wander through the cemetary on our own, but to book this tour instead. Would recommend!

Becky is a very good guide, a lot of stories to tell. Everything was really very very good!
  • Step away from the bustle of Paris and join an expert English-speaking guide as they lead you through the maze that is the Pére Lachaise Paris. This is the largest cemetery in the city and the final resting place of several famous personalities. In fact, the list of famous people who are buried here includes 40 singers, 40 composers, and 75 painters. Small wonder then, that over 3 million people visit it every year!

As you join your guide on this adventure, learn about the stories buried under your feet and get a glimpse into a romantic side of the city. The first people of note to be buried here were the star-crossed lovers, Abelard and Heloise, France’s original Romeo and Juliet. Jim Morrison's tomb is the most visited in the cemetery. How this famous American musician (the lead singer of The Doors) ended up in an unmarked Parisian grave is a story you will learn from your guide. Of course, the grave isn't unmarked anymore–several fans across the world come and leave their mark here.

When you pass by Irish writer Oscar Wilde's tomb, you'll find out why it is covered in lipstick kisses. See also the resting place of Chopin, the classical musician. Fun fact: all of Chopin’s remains are buried here except for his heart, which was returned to his hometown in Warsaw. Pay your respects at the grave of Gertrude Stein, the popular American writer who supported artists like Picasso and Hemingway. Have a look at the tombs of some of France’s most celebrated artists and writers. Géricault's grave has a reproduction of his famous painting, ‘The Raft of Medusa’ which is put up in the Louvre today. At the graves of Honoré de Balzac and Marcel Proust, your guide will offer an insight into their writings and philosophies. Pay homage to George-Eugène Haussman, the architect responsible for Paris as you see it today. France’s darling singer Edith Piaf's grave is almost always colorful, with visitors bringing flowers to adorn it each day.
