Did you know?

The Museu Picasso opened in 1963 and was the first museum dedicated to Picasso, established with the artist’s own support and donations.

The museum’s collection spans over 4,000 works, focusing especially on Picasso’s early years and his deep ties to Barcelona.

It occupies five adjoining medieval palaces, like Aguilar, Baró de Castellet, Meca, Mauri, and Finestres, on the historic Carrer Montcada.

Picasso personally donated over 900 works to the museum in 1970, dramatically expanding its holdings.

The museum houses one of the world’s most complete collections of Picasso’s ceramics, showcasing his playful side in clay and glaze.

Why visit Picasso Museum Barcelona?

See Picasso’s early masterpieces

Explore one of the world’s most extensive collections of Picasso’s early works, from childhood sketches to his breakthrough Barcelona period, offering rare insight into his artistic journey.

Experience art in medieval palaces

Wander through five beautifully preserved Gothic palaces, where stone courtyards and vaulted rooms create a magical backdrop for Picasso’s masterpieces.

Marvel at the complete Las Meninas series

Stand before Picasso’s full Las Meninas series, an extraordinary set of 1957 paintings inspired by Velázquez, rarely seen together anywhere else.

Connect Picasso’s art to Barcelona

Discover works and archival materials that tie directly to Barcelona’s people, places, and bohemian spirit, deepening your understanding of the city’s influence on Picasso.

Enjoy a manageable, enriching visit

With a compact layout and engaging displays, the museum is perfect for both art aficionados and casual visitors, making it easy to absorb highlights in just a couple of hours.

Plan your visit

Main Entrance – Carrer de Montcada

The official and only public entrance is located on Carrer de Montcada, between numbers 15 and 23. Look for the 'Museu Picasso' signage and, during busy times, a visible line outside. The approach is on cobblestone but generally flat, and the museum provides accessible routes and elevators inside for visitors with reduced mobility. All standard visitors, including those with tickets and those purchasing on-site, enter here. If you require step-free access or assistance, staff are available to help upon arrival.

The tour was great! We saw a lot of different views and the commentary was great! I liked that you could select different languages, although one bus had a problem where only one of the earplugs would work but that was really the only problem I expierenced. The staff was also really nice and professional. Overal a great addition to our trip. Thank you!
