Why Watch School of Rock
Why Watch School of Rock
Based on the 2003 film of the same name, School of Rock was adapted as a musical in 2015. The musical focuses more on the students than the film, giving the young characters a stronger background. Composed by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber, winner of three Grammy and six Tony Awards, the musical proves to be an unforgettable experience. He combines elegant and touching melodies with powerful and Craig Gallivan does a stellar job as Dewey Finn, showcasing the ferocious energy, without ever drawing attention away from the kids. The child cast is equally brilliant, and their genuine talent is easy to see in their performances. The musical also explores the effects of parents forcing their dreams upon their children, and how it can have an adverse effect.

The Story
Dewey Finn is a struggling rock guitarist and singer. Things take a turn when the members of his band No Vacancy, agree to kick out Dewey due to his on-stage antics. He is left without a source of income and struggles to make ends meet. The very next morning, Dewey’s longtime friend Ned Schneebly wakes him up at the insistence of his girlfriend Patty, and they demand rent from Dewey. As Dewey goes about his day trying to find a way to scrap the money, he learns that he is fired from his job at the record store and that he has been kicked out of his band.
As everything seems to be going against Dewey, he receives a call from Horace Green School, a prestigious prep school regarding an open position for a substitute teacher. Although the call is for Ned, Dewey takes it up pretending to be his friend and accepts the job. As Dewey attempts to live up to the high standards of Horace Green, he learns about the incredible musical talent of his students. He forms a band of these fifth-graders, with the goal of winning the Battle of the Bands competition. Will Dewey finally be able to inspire and win the hearts of his apprehensive students? Can Dewey achieve his dream of getting one last chance at the “Battle of the Bands”?
