The King and I

The King and I, Bartlett Sher's Tony Award-winning Lincoln Centre Theatre revival, is making a short-term return to London's West End. Under the direction of Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher (South Pacific, My Fair Lady, To Kill a Mockingbird), a world-class company of over 50 West End and Broadway performers, as well as a full-scale orchestra, this production is coming back onstage. The King and I features Broadway superstar Darren Lee (Chicago, Guys and Dolls) as the King of Siam and Call the Midwife's Helen George as Anna. The Story

The story involves a widowed school teacher, Anna Leonowens, from the UK, who travels to Siam in the early 1860s to work for the King. The King feels determined about ushering Siam into the modern age and thus takes measures to introduce his offspring to the many wonders of Western education. Called upon to serve as a governess to his children, Anna sets her sights on an adventure. However, Anna, with her strong-willed opinions, and the King with his barbaric principles struggle to find common ground!
