Lois Robbins’s solo comedy is all set to dazzle at Broadway. She delves into the intricacies of love, sex and life, and gets candid about her own real-life experiences. A skilled storyteller, Robbins punctuates the narrative with subtle humor, making for a riveting 70-minute performance. The show can be thought of as the typical girl talk over tequila, albeit with a generous dose of her traditional mother’s advice. Robbins ‘ narration is friendly and poised, and her girl-like demeanor makes her all the more relatable, especially during the moments of silliness. The revelations aren’t earth-shattering, and she doesn’t diss anyone in her anecdotes, making for a fun and relaxed show. Although the details of everyone’s story is different, it is the humor that ensures Robbins is able to connect with her audience. Join Robins as she attempts to make sense of her past on her journey of self-discovery!
The Show
Lois Robbins details the humorous story of her sexual awakening. It begins with a young Robbins, who at the age of 3 had figured out that rubbing herself up against the hard furniture would provide a feeling that was unmatched. She then went on to discover the vibrating appliances around the house such as the washing machine and dryer, and that changed her life for good. Robbins delves into stories from her youth, as she explores her sexuality. There are numerous stories of boyfriends and their agendas, and her first marriage that ultimately failed.
Halfway through the show, Robbins shifts gears and talks about battling breast cancer. She describes the difficult times where her future was clouded, and what it made her realize about her true self. The departure from the narrative of the first half is wonderfully done, and it is the moments that she directly talk to the audience that is truly magical!
