Florentine Rennaisance splendor
Begin your journey at Piazza del Duomo, the vibrant heart of Florence and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meet your host for a seamless start, avoid long lines, and download the audio guide app with personalized assistance. This audio guide app will help you navigate through the complex, narrating important facts of history curated by art historians. As you step inside the Florence cathedral let its intricate carvings, majestic mason dome, and vibrant frescoes consume your imagination as you listen to the story of how a goldsmith, Filippo Brunelleschi, won a competition and helped complete the longstanding project. Since there were no existing tools and machinery to build such a massive brick dome, he had to design his own. To date, it remains the largest brick dome in the world, astounding architects and historians everywhere.
Historical wonders and artistic treasures
Across the street, the Baptistry of San Giovanni stuns visitors with the shimmer of inlaid marble and gold mosaic, under which the likes of Dante were baptized!
Continue your exploration at the Opera del Duomo Museum, a treasure trove of Renaissance art. Here, discover gems like Pietà Bandini and Gates of Paradise. Don’t just look, unravel the stories behind their artistic brilliance like how Michelangelo destroyed his sculpture in a fit of rage. Finally, delve underground to uncover the Santa Reparata Crypt. Walk through the remnants of the ancient basilica, marveling at Paleo-Christian mosaics and tombstones that sing sagas of Florence's storied past. Glimpse into medieval religious life as you admire stone carvings, coins, altars, and vessels of the age.
Upgrade to climb 414 steps and be greeted with a stunning terracotta panorama of Florence, standing atop the 85-meter Bell Tower. An unmissable part of the city’s skyline, Giotto’s Bell Tower whispers tales of how Giotto died believing that the tower may never be complete.
