Well known for being the symbol of Portugal, the musical form of fado is blended with a strong tradition in the historic districts of Lisbon and was adopted as a Portuguese culture. Experience how fado, which was declared part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, combines nostalgia and Portuguese pride in a musical style epitomized by Amália Rodrigues.

Be spell-bound with a once-in-a-lifetime experience of a magical music show which features phenomenal artists. Watch out for marvelous images of the best locations in Lisbon while enjoying the show. Once the show is over, explore Lisbon city in the light of beautiful stars.

Jerónimos Monastery

A Portuguese national monument since 1907 and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983, the Jerónimos Monastery is one of the highest symbols of medieval Portuguese architecture. Historically and artistically connected to the Belém Tower, both these notable landmarks of Lisbon were built on the initiative of King Manuel I, who ruled between 1495 and 1521. In fact, the Belém Tower was built not only to protect the port of Lisbon but also for the Jerónimos Monastery.

Soak up the different elements that make up this stunning model of Manueline architectural style including Gothic, Moorish, and Renaissance styles. The two levels of cloisters are so intricate and filled with structural detail that they took a hundred years to be completed! Spot mythical creatures like gargoyles and marine animals within the carvings, columns, and arches. Don’t miss the vaulted ceilings on the lower level of the monastery or the views from the higher level of the adjacent Church of Santa Maria de Belem.

Belém Tower

The Belém Tower has long been a symbol of Portugal’s history, culture, and heritage. Officially called the ‘Tower of Saint Vincent’ (in honor of Lisbon’s patron saint), this notable landmark is a 16th-century fortification on the River Tagus. Serving as a starting point and destination for Portuguese ships and explorers, it was also a ceremonial gateway to the city.

Dive right into exploring this UNESCO Heritage-listed monument and its historic role. Learn about how it protected the city as part of a tripartite defense system and how this fell apart after the Spanish Occupation. With its limestone foundation and traditional medieval architecture, better known as ‘Manueline’ architecture, the most noticeable elements are the twisted ropes that wind around the building – ending in elegant knots – armillary spheres, crosses of the Order of Christ, and other Gothic features. The Tower consists of four stories: the Governor's Room, Kings' Room, the Audience Room, and the vaulted chapel.
