The monastery was beautiful and we enjoyed the architecture. Belen Castle was overcrowded and after waiting 30 minutes only 20 people had been allowed in and we had over 100 people in front of us. We eventually left without entering because the direct sun and heat were unbearable.

Incríbles colas de más de una hora a pesar de tener tickets. Está bien por la flexibiliad , pero es inhumano estar una hora o más al sol a 38 grados . Mejor reserva de tickets para una hora

There was no skip the line. The line was horrendously long in the morning to anyone that plans to visit. I suggest they go in the afternoon.

Nous avons pu prendre sur headout nos billets en ligne en 5 à 10 minutes alors qu'il n'y avait plus de billets en vente sur place et avons pu visiter ce lieu historique et emblématique de Lisbonne sis sur les bord du Tage où notre fille a pu mettre les pieds dans l'eau pendant la queue d'attente sous la chaleur. Passerelle d'accès sur le Tage avec jolies photos de la tour , puis visite du sous sol avec canons et vu du cachot dans le sol ensuite on va sur la terrasse et accède aux différents étages de la tour (non meublés) belles vues sur le Tage et le pont du 24 juillet avec la statue du Christ au loin pour de bons souvenirs.

This incredible 6 story tower is an architectural work of art. Its intricate design makes for a stunning photo op but beyond its beauty lies a long history of power and protection. Explore its many levels and learn about its past as part of Portugal’s rich cultural heritage.

Learn about the Belém Tower

Your English and Spanish-speaking guide will walk you through the history of the monument for over 1.5 hours. The tower has 5 levels connected by a spiral staircase. These stairs are so narrow that they’ve installed a traffic signal set up to go up and down the stairs! Visit the octagonal Governor's Chamber and then make your way to the King’s room which overlooks the southern side of the tower. Another interesting element in this room is the eight holes in the floor called 'machicolations', through which the garrison could shoot or drop projectiles to fend off attacks.

Capture Panoramic Views

Get stunning views of the Tagus Estuary and riverbanks from the terrace. Looking northward, catch sight of the secluded Chapel of St. Jerome among the trees on Avenida da Liberdade.
