Mozart’s Great Mass
Composed in 1782 and 1783 in Vienna, Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor is the common name of his last musical setting of the mass. It was composed as a result of a vow Mozart made to his father to write a mass when he would bring his then-fiancee to Salzburg as his wife. It premiered in Salzburg in October 1783 at the Church of St. Peter’s Abbey in the context of a Roman Catholic mass.
