Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum offers you a glimpse into art from the 13th century to the late 20th century. With thousands of awe-inspiring paintings to marvel at, the Thyssen is known to have one of the most overwhelmingly large collections of art that are bound to leave you speechless. It consists of movements not represented in state-owned collections, such as Impressionism, Fauvism, German Expressionism, and the experimental avant-garde movements of the early 20th century.
The museum also has a collection of North American paintings on display. Impressionist and Post Impressionist work from artists like Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, Vincent van Gogh, to name a few, also add immense artistic value to the museum. Your ticket offers you a thematic tour of these collections. Simply pick up an audio guide (available in Spanish and English) and choose from tours that focus on wine culture, food, fashion, inclusive love, jewelry, or sustainability – select an angle that suits your mood!
With Inclusive Love, follow a route that takes you from Bronzino to Hockney, offering a different gaze in order to focus on concepts such as identity and sexual orientation. Wine Culture showcases iconic art pieces such as Young Peasant with a Flask by Tommaso Salini, and Bacchus and Adriane by Sebastiano Ricci. Food as a thematic tour will satisfy your appetite and tempt your palate with art such as The Old Fish Market on the Dam, Amsterdam by Emanuel de Witte. Get a sense of ecology, economics, and society linked by art in the Sustainability route; see pieces such as The Stevedores in Arles by Van Gogh and The Forest by Natalia Goncharova. Discover how fashion has shaped human evolution as you tour the Fashion route, and explore artworks such as Portrait of a Lady by Hans Baldung Grien and Fashion Show by Lovis Corinth. See art that dates back to the 15th to 20th centuries in the Jewelry route. Explore famous paintings such as Portrait of a Man with a Ring by Francesco del Cossa, and Venus and Cupid by Peter Paul Rubens. Other inspirational themes include Invisible Cities, Images of Water, and Women and Books.
