The performances include the famous Awa Odori where dance troupes wearing fan-shaped braided hats form long lines or circles and move to the two-beat rhythm of the shamisen (three-stringed flute), yokobue (bamboo flute), kane (bell) and taiko (drum). Watch a live show which demonstrates and explains the history, traditions, and lives of high-ranking courtesans called Oiran. But that’s not all.
