The Victorian styled engine rooms have enormous pumping hydraulics that use steam to operate the bridge’s bascules. The energy that was pumped was stored in 6 massive accumulators, so that power was always readily available. North Tower & South Tower
Inside both the towers you’ll find a small exhibition explaining the history of Tower Bridge, how it was built, and who built it. This is highlighted using film, photos, and interactive displays. Once you reach North Tower, you can either climb up 206 steps or take the lift to the top. From here you will have access to the glass walkway.
