Segways are known for being 100% eco-friendly with zero carbon emissions and thus, are the ideal ride for your sightseeing adventures.
You will be led by a local tour guide as you weave through the meandering streets and narrow alleyways of Alfama. Your guide will also give you a precious insight into the district’s colorful history which has been shaped by Moorish, Roman, and Arabic influences.
A Play-By-Play of Your Time at Alfama
Make your first stop at the Praca do Comercio or the Commerce Square, the largest plaza in all of Portugal at 30,600 m2 and also the main square of Lisbon. You will be given 10 minutes to explore your surroundings, which include numerous yellow buildings featuring distinct Pombaline architecture as well as the 18th-century bronze statue of King Joseph I. After which, make your way to the National Pantheon or the Panteao Nacional Campo de Santa Clara. Did you know that the National Pantheon was built painstakingly over three centuries starting in 1682 and ending in 1966? Since it was once a prominent church, distinguished Portuguese personalities like the writer Almeida Garrett and the Fado icon, Amalia Rodrigues are laid to rest here.
The tour also includes two of the best observation points in all Lisbon. The Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara and the Miradouro da Graca offer exceptional hilltop views of central Lisbon. Take a break surrounded by pine trees and scan the vistas for monuments like St. George’s Castle among the sprawling houses lined with red-tiled roofs. The last stop is the Lisbon Cathedral or Sé de Lisboa. Lisbon’s oldest building dating back to the 12th century was built in Romanesque, Baroque, and Gothic styles and is an absolute architectural marvel. You will also get to sip on a complimentary local beer to bring an end to this beautiful trip.
