At the Vietnam War Memorial, try to read the names written on the black wall (there are more than 58,000) of the men and women missing or killed during the war. The Korean War Memorial and WWII Memorial are equally poignant and historic sites. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial is one of the newer sites and was opened in 2011.
