The tour of Herculaneum was brilliant and the guide, Danilo, was very knowledgeable. My only gripe may have been my own fault. I followed the directions in the email, thinking that was to the meeting point, wrong, it was to the backdoor of the Archeology Unit. On re-reading the email I found a second set of directions to the meeting point. My wife was not impressed with my navigating.

Everything was wonderful! The guide was very informative and entertaining.
The only thing I would suggest is changing the picture of where to meet in case our others were literal like us. :)

The guide, Mr Leone, made it very interesting through comparisons between Herculaneum and Pompeii and through his own personal research and documentation which he shared with the group.

Excellent guide! Very patient with all on the tour, extremely so with a young man who had developmental delays. Knowledgeable, yet not unnecessarily wordy or detailed in his explanations. Danilo was well paced in his delivery as well as his movement from location to location. Easy to listen to, easy to follow.

Everything was wonderful from start to finish. Our check in person was fun and friendly. Sarah, our guide was wonderful! Very personable, and SO knowledgeable. She made the tour interesting and fun. She was patient, answered everyone's questions, and provided a great perspective on the life and lifestyle of this ancient city. We would give this 10 stars if we could! Thank you for an absolutely fabulous 2 hour tour.

The guide was very informative and provided excellent information. Overall a great experience, the only issue we had was the meeting point as there was some confusion over whether to meet outside the entrance or at the ticket office. It was at the ticket office in the end! But other than that I'd highly recommend.

We were told on the day that the tour guide was not going to join us as the 'website was wrong' and no-one was available. And then something about the weather... (It had been slightly stormy that morning but was clearing (trust me it was hot! and I imagine tour numbers were down).
However, we had a schedule of other things we needed to stuck with it. We had to get there using train tickets - which wasn't ideal as we probably spent about 1.5hrs less on the site due to worrying about having to catch one of two limited train services back to Sorrento. We arrived at about 11.30am (but by the time we'd walked the 10mins and then found the different place to get our tickets - it had changed because no tour guide was coming to meet us anymore) it was closer to midday and we had to be finished by 2.00pm to walk back to catch the train - or wait another three hours.
The 'alright' part was the ruins. They were awesome. What wasn't was the organisation of the audio tours. It was hard to find some of the numbers (there were many sets of stree numbers, the audio signs were few and far between and some early in the series we never found). So we very quickly became lost. I think we wee hoping it was going to keep us on track so we'd find and work our way through the place quite quickly. Also the audio tour guide would tell you to look to your right to see a feature of a room - but it was actually on your left. Clearly it had been recorded by someone looking at the site from a map/computer with a different orientation to North.
I would have much preferred a tour guide and there are other services with bus shuttles from Sorrento. I think I would have joined one of those in the future. The town we walked through did feel particularly safe. The experience on the regional train systems changes vastly in comparison to the fast train metro lines. Just graffitti covered walls and trains everywhere... Not the Italy you've been experiencing to date.

The guide was very informative and gave us lots of personal information. He was perhaps a bit quick in some places and didn't allow enough time for taking photographs. However we saw a lot of the site during the tour and gained a fascinating perspective on the town at the time of the eruption of Vesuvius.
