If you want to see Michelangelo’s David, you can easily see the replica in Piazza della Signoria in front of Palazzo Vecchio or in the middle of Piazzale Michelangelo. However, if you wish to admire the original sculpture, you have only one option - the Accademia Gallery.
Along with David, some of the unmissable works from Michelangelo include Prisoners, St. Matthew, and Palestrina Pietà. The main halls also boast of artworks from other great Italian artists such as Sandro Botticelli, Pontormo, Andrea del Sarto, and Alessandro Allori.
The fame of this museum is fuelled by the presence of some of the greatest masterpieces of the iconic Italian artists, leading to a large turnout and long tourist lines that are hard to get past even with a reservation ticket.
