PastPresent is an exploration of Sarah Moon’s speculative aesthetic. Although she is mostly recognized as a fashion photographer, her work surpasses the league. The exhibition aims to reveal the idiosyncrasy of both her photographic and film work. Characterized by a painterly perspective, her photographs often feature grim romanticism and magical imagery. A self-made photographer, Sarah Moon believes the art is like pure fiction, sometimes a ballad, and her work reflects this rightly so. Sarah Moon’s temporality is punctuated by the “past-present” – an emotion that undoubtedly fascinates the world of fashion in its quest to capture timelessness in the present moment.

The exhibition follows a strictly non-chronological approach, working as a mingling of eras, typologies, and subjects that illustrate their reciprocal consistency. It also features her selection of haunting short films mostly adapted from popular fairy tales — including “Bluebeard” (The Red Thread, 2006), “The Little Mermaid” (The Mermaid of Auderville, 2007), and more – all of which are defined by an ongoing narrative that invites visitors to appreciate and interact. A gallery is also dedicated to the late Robert Delpire (1926–2017), Moon’s partner of five decades.
