Fascinating Settings

The Museum of Oriental Art, situated in a 18th-century palazzo inside Turin, houses one of the largest collections of cultural artifacts from across the continent of Asia. From Turkey to the Far East, the museum has a collection of about 2200 pieces of art from various eras in Asian history. Besides all the paintings, sculptures, and other intriguing exhibits, the museum also accommodates two Japanese rock gardens in the courtyard on the ground floor.

Insightful Art

As you enter the museum, you will find that the building itself is divided into five interlinked exhibition spaces that represent the five cultural hotspots of Asia - South Asia, China, Japan, the Himalayan Region, and the Middle East. Each of these areas of the museum is a joy to explore. The South Asian, Chinese, and Himalayan sections have a particularly impressive range of sculptures. Some of the neolithic ceramics and terracotta artifacts in the Chinese gallery date all the way back to 3000 BC! The paintings and ritual instruments from the Himalayan and Japanese galleries, which are visibly inspired by Buddhist culture and beliefs, are interesting to inspect. The ceramics, glazed tiles, and fine velvets in the gallery of Islamic art are also fascinating to examine.
