San Marco Museum

At San Marco Museum, Florence, find amazing frescos, a library that houses illuminated manuscripts, and underground rooms where you will find ancient relics and a rare collection of bells! A fine example of a 15th-century monastic dwelling, the museum was partially planned by Brunelleschi.

The calibre of the museum and its display is some of the best that we have experienced. The presentation of the artifacts and the interpretation was superior. Would highly recommend it as a must see when visiting Florence.

The highlight of my trip to Florence was certainly the San Marco Museum. I particularly liked seeing Fra Angelico's painting of the Annunciation, as well as all of his frescoes in the convent cells upstairs on the first floor.

Museo di San Marco is not crowded at all although it is very close to the Accademia where there are dense crowds waiting in the street to seee the David. The painted frescoes of Beato Angelo at San Marco are stunning and there is quiet time and space to see them. I arrived 30 minutes ahead of my scheduled time of 10am and went in early. No one else was there.
