Siena Cathedral
The Siena Cathedral, located in Siena, Tuscany, is a magnificent Duomo that showcases some of the most important aspects of the European artistic and architectural gamut. It has grown over the years in popularity, now drawing more than a million visitors each year. The beauty of the cathedral is made all the more prominent by artworks from Michelangelo, Donatello, Nicola Pisano, and Bernini. If you so wish, you can opt for access to the entire Duomo complex and make the most of your visit.
Head over to the Piccolomini Library, frescoed by Pinturicchio as you admire the cathedral's marble-inlay floor. Next, visit the Baptistry of San Giovanni, where the splendid Baptismal Font will catch your eye; it is, after all, one of the greatest monuments of Renaissance sculpture! Wind further down to explore the eerie Crypt, where a grandiose cycle of frescoes dating back to the 13th century will make your acquaintance. You also have access to the Museo dell'Opera, where your hunt to discover Italian art continues. Marvel at the works of Italian artists, including Duccio di Buoninsegna's Maestà here. Wind up your experience by climbing to the terrace atop the unfinished façade of the new cathedral, where you can witness unaltered views of the city and the Tuscan countryside!
San Gimignano Museum Pass
Home to beautiful palaces and towers, San Gimignano is a Tuscan treasure. With this 2-day pass, enjoy access to the best of the acclaimed civic museums. Climb to the top of the Torre Grossa ('big tower' in Italian) at the Palazzo Comunale and look out at the rolling hills. Admire the collection of stunning plates and ceramics at Santa Fina's spezieria, and learn about the growth of the city at the Archaeological Museum. You'll also get to visit the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary art, named after the legendary painter, Raffaele De Grada.
Don't miss out on dropping by at one of the best-kept secrets of San Gimignano, the Duomo - the outside of the church does not hint at the treasures within. Go sightseeing at all these places in any order you want, and spread them out over two whole days - it's the perfect way to experience Tuscany!
