The tour starts from the Basilica of San Domenico, one of the most important landmarks in the city of Siena. Dedicated to St. Catherine of Siena, the Basilica houses several relics. Your guide will take you through the narrow streets of Siena, while delving into the history of the area and its numerous attractions. You will pass numerous medieval buildings on the way, and learn about the centuries-old traditions that are still followed in the city.
On your tour, you will reach the Piazza del Campo, the main public square of the city. The focal point of the square is the Palazzo Pubblico, or the town hall. A prime example of medieval architecture with some Gothic influences, the Palazzo Pubblico also features a bell tower, Torre del Mangia, which at one point was the tallest structure in all of Italy.
Finally, you will reach the highest point of the city, where the Siena Cathedral is located. Built in 1215, the cathedral’s facade is one of the most impressive in all of Italy. It combines elements from Classical, Romanesque, and French Gothic architecture and is a spectacular display of Sienese workmanship.
