    • Fun fact: Sumo wrestlers eat a special stew called "Chanko Nabe" to gain weight. It is a mixture of fish, vegetables, meat, and tofu.

From the moment you step into the sumo stable, you're part of an ancient Japanese tradition dating back over a thousand years. Your guide, a local expert, will lead you to the training area where sumo wrestlers undergo their rigorous morning practice. Here, you'll witness firsthand the intense physical, mental, and spiritual training regimens that these wrestlers live by. Remember, silence is golden during the session, allowing you to fully absorb this unique spectacle.

    Ryogoku: Sumo at heart

    You’ll get a rare chance to take photos inside the sumo stable, capturing a special moment in Japan’s sumo heritage. That's not all! You choose between visiting a stable in Ryongoku, Sumiyoshi, or the Tokyo Skytree area. In the Ryogoku area, you'll enjoy a leisurely stroll through the heartland of sumo, discovering iconic landmarks like the Kokugikan Arena and sumo stables, all rich in history.

  • What's not allowed

    • Eating and drinking are not allowed.

    • Keep in mind that sunglasses and hats are not allowed in the stable. Pack wisely!

    • Due to venue restrictions, pets cannot tag along on this experience.

    • This experience is restricted for guests under the age of 12 years.

    • Re-entry is not permitted.

    • You cannot ask wrestlers to take a photograph with you while the practice is still going on.

    • Shutterbugs, take note: Flash photography and shutter sound are a no-go inside the venue.

    Accessibility

    • This experience is not accessible by wheelchairs or prams/strollers.

    • This experience is not the best fit for guests with back problems and heart conditions, and pregnant women.

    Additional information

    • Guests may have to sit on the floor as most of the stables do not usually offer chairs.

    • Sumo stables can refuse guests who break the rules.

    • Photo permissions with wrestlers are at the stable's discretion and may be denied.

    • In the case that your group is large, the group may be split into different groups and each may visit different stables.

    • You may not be allowed to go to the toilet during the practice, so please make sure to go to the toilet before the tour starts.

    • Cellphones must be on silent.

    • Do not step down onto the ring or the sandy ground area. The ring is a sacred place for the wrestlers.

    • Do not stretch your legs toward the ring. It is considered impolite to show the soles of feet to the wrestlers.

    • Do your best not to leave the sumo stable in the middle of the practice, and try to stay and watch the practice until the very end.

    • Be very careful not to interfere with the sumo wrestlers' concentration.

    • Your voucher will be emailed to you instantly.

    • Please arrive at the meeting point 15 mins before the scheduled time of your tour to avoid any delays.

    • Display the voucher on your mobile phone with a valid photo ID at the meeting point.
