Sammy, vår reseguide, började dagen med en engagerande historisk bakgrundshistoria som var relevant för turnén. Vi kom i tid, men det verkade som om han höll på att avsluta sin briefing när vi anslöt oss till gruppen, vilket gjorde att vi missade en del inledande sammanhang. Under besöket i munkkryptan erbjöd Sammy oss möjligheten att hoppa över museet och gå direkt till kryptan. Han försäkrade oss om att det skulle finnas tillräckligt med tid för att se allt, men jag fann mig själv rusa genom kryptan på grund av ett snävt schema, eftersom jag hade hoppats kunna lyssna på hela audioguiden men hade ont om tid. Dessutom rörde sig Sammy i en snabb takt, vilket gjorde det utmanande för gruppen att hålla ihop, särskilt eftersom vi navigerade på flera gator och svängar. Detta ledde till att vissa gruppmedlemmar tappade honom ur sikte. Vi undrade över den skyttel som skulle ingå; den visade sig vara ganska långt borta, vilket inte kommunicerades väl. Det kan vara fördelaktigt för framtida turer om skytteln kan vara närmare startpunkten eller om tidpunkten kan justeras, vilket möjliggör en mer avslappnad utforskning av varje plats, inklusive ljudguiderna. I katakomberna var gruppen lite för stor för att bekvämt passa in och fullt ut engagera sig i vad Sammy förklarade när vi rörde oss genom tunnlarna. Sammantaget, med vissa justeringar av tempo och kommunikation, kunde turen vara ännu roligare och mer informativ!

The bone chapels
Your first stop is the Museum & Crypt of the Capuchin Friars, housing Caravaggio’s painting of St. Francis and many artifacts from the order's history of creating altruistic projects around the world. Lined along the rear end of the museum are the Capuchin Crypts: resting places of 4000 Capuchin Friars, whose skeletal remains were artistically arranged in the European tradition of memento mori, a simple reminder that all must die.
The sacred Christian catacombs
On a private AC bus, you'll travel along the ancient Appian Way to the extensive catacombs, dug into the ground some 2000 years ago. Follow your historian guide through the network of sacred tunnels associated with the first Christians in ancient Rome. Descend into the labyrinthian corridors carved into the soft volcanic rock as you discover intriguing iconography, fascinating frescoes, and breathtaking burial grounds. You will either visit the Catacombs of St. Callixtus, St. Sebastian, or Domitilla!
