The reservation slot was flexible enough to tolerate a 15 Min delay despite information provided scaring us telling that a delay was considered like a no show and no refund was possibile!

It was easy to use, even if the people checking the ticjets at the entrance were much to picky on tthe time indicated: whereas there were very few people in the exhibtion we had to wait for 15 minutes in the. cold because we arrived in advanced Not a very warm Austrian welcome... :-(

Beautiful upper Belvedere Castle, but I did not like the lower one because there was only an exhibition of paintings that did not excite me for my taste.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Belvedere Palace is also the site of the Austrian State Treaty. Consisting of two palaces, the Upper and Lower Belvedere, and extensive gardens the unique complex is one of the world's most supreme specimens of the Baroque architectural ensemble.

Upper Belvedere Palace

The magnificent structure was built in the 18th century when the Austrian general Prince Eugene of Savoy commissioned a summer residence from the famous Baroque architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt. After the demise of Prince Eugene, the entire complex was acquired by Empress Maria Theresa. She transformed the Upper Belvedere into an exhibition venue for the imperial collections, thus turning the place into one of the world's first public museums. In the present day, the Belvedere is one of the prominent museums across the globe with famous art collections dating all the way back to the Middle Ages. Highlights include the world's largest collection of Gustav Klimt paintings (including The Kiss), famous works from the periods of Austrian Baroque, French Impressionism, Viennese Biedermeier, and from Vienna around 1900.

Lower Belvedere Palace

The Lower Belvedere served as a residential building for Prince Eugene and marked the boundary between the Baroque building complex and the imperial city of Vienna. Today, the rooms of Lower Belvedere and the Orangery play host to illustrious temporary exhibitions and events. Other highlights of the palace include The Hall of Grotesques, The Marble Gallery, The Gold Cabinet, and the Palace Stables. See the stucco war trophies that proudly reflect Prince Eugene's military successes in The Marble Gallery, and see the lavish Gold Cabinet that has been displayed in its original condition since 1765. Visit The Hall of Grotesques to admire paintings preserved in their original condition, as well as the grotesques painted on the walls and ceilings. A special treat awaits art lovers in the Palace Stables, the home of priceless artworks from the Medieval collection.
