Once On This Island is the Broadway musical celebration that sweeps us across the sea to a small village—where, in the aftermath of a great storm, a joyous new life begins.
Why Watch Once on this island
Why Watch Once on this island
Once on this Island is loosely based on the book with the same name written by Lynn Ahrens. It takes you on a voyage that deep into the Caribbean, on an island divided by several different classes. Tony award nominee Micheal Arden brings a different perspective on stage and presents a heartwarming story about a tropical town devastated by storm. Full of flamboyant Caribbean colors, rhythms and tunes, the reverberant play comes to life with soulful musical arrangements by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens.
The Story
Once on this Island is a tale of a fearless young peasant girl, Ti Moune, who falls in love with a wealthy, fair-skinned boy from the other side of the island. After their cultures end up separating the two, Ti Moune is seen seeking help from the powerful island gods - Erzuli, Asaka, Papa Ge and Agwe — who help her embark on an adventurous quest. A play full of life, music and dance, this production takes you through Ti Moune’s dream-like state-of-mind. Will she end up reuniting with the man of her dreams?
