St. Mark’s Basilica
Constructed in 1063, St. Mark’s Basilica is a stunning blend of Byzantine, Gothic, and Venetian styles. Its golden mosaics, which cover over 8,000 square meters, depict biblical stories and reflect the city’s ties to Byzantium.
The basilica’s five grand domes symbolize divine presence, while its intricate marble floors and ornate columns showcase centuries of craftsmanship. Inside, marvel at its opulent decor and explore its fascinating history using an audio guide that brings the site to life.
Upgrade to access Pala d’Oro
The Pala d’Oro is one of the basilica’s most prized treasures. This exquisite altarpiece is adorned with gold, silver, and precious gems, making it a masterpiece of medieval craftsmanship.
You can also ascend to the Loggia dei Cavalli Terrace for breathtaking views of St. Mark’s Square and Venice’s rooftops. The terrace houses replicas of the famous bronze horses brought from Constantinople during the Crusades, with the originals displayed inside St. Mark’s Museum.

- This experience is wheelchair and pram/stroller accessible.
- A ramp is available at the Porta del Fiori (Door of Flowers) entrance on the left-hand side of the basilica.
- The Museum on the upper floor of the basilica is served by both a lift and stair lifts.
