Why Watch Frankenstein: A New Musical
Why Watch Frankenstein: A New Musical
In this musical adaptation of one of the most revered tales of fiction, Frankenstein: A New Musical, lyricist Eric B. Sirota does a marvelous job of utilizing the epistolary framework of the novel in his score for the musical. When a distraught Victor Frankenstein loses his mother at a young age, he vows to conquer mortality by reanimating old body parts of old corpses through electricity, little does he know he is about to create a hideous and heinous creature who is hell-bent on finding an identity in a world that abhors him.
Coming to St. Luke’s theatre in 2018, marking the bicentennial anniversary of the novel, Frankenstein: A New Musical has become a mainstay on the Off-Broadway stage. Erick Sánchez-Canahuate delivers a powerful and harrowing performance as the creature, and stirs audiences to look at the humane side of the creature.
