We booked 2 combitickets for the Colosseum / Palatine Hill / Forum Romanum, incl. The Mamertine Prison. The whole concept went well : booking, the app from Headout that you can install where you can find your tickets via QR. Also a clear explanation via the app where to redeem your tickets via QR with direct link to Google Maps for the route. In our case, the redemption point was in the Mamertine Prison so we were able to visit it at once. Afterwards, the Colosseum was nearby (with reserved hour) so through the ticket we could enter through a separate entrance (Fast Lane). The only point of criticism : in the Mamertine Prison you could download an audio guide which required a password and password. The lady behind the counter sighed when both of us kept getting an error after 3 attempts and started complaining about us to her colleagues. This was really about it ! Fortunately, another colleague was helpful and did everything possible to help us. This may not be directly related to Headout but the outrageous behavior of that one person should be reported.View original review in DutchAlexander

Colloseum very impressive. Audio guide on the cell phone was a disaster. You had to download an app first and then there was no German version available.View original review in GermanLiane

The overall ambience is very nice. Unfortunately, the entire registration process was not satisfactory. A better briefing would be good. Why do I have to print out online tickets? Why is the registration so far away from the actual start/beginning. Unfortunately we couldn't find a suitable tour guide and had to make do on our own in the area.View original review in GermanPamela

We showed up at the colosseum only to be told we needed to walk 2 more blocks to get to the prison. We had trouble finding it and 1 worker we asked was rude and pointed us in the wrong direction. Once we got inside we were yelled at by security for being late. By the time we got back to the collosium we were herded in with everyone else. Too busy. Too crowded. Then we gave up looking at whatever else we were supposed to look at. It was a long daySchiano

Help with access to all paid entrances would have been a minimum. Only an entrance ticket and no explanation of the other accesses promised at the time of purchase. Very disappointedView original review in French
Rome through memory lane
Rome, the capital city of Italy, is said to have been founded in 753 BC. Within its magnificent structures lie chronicles of powerful history. Learn how art, economy, architecture, power, and public policy were dealt with in this past civilisation.
A tablet guide will help you explore the Mamertine Prison (also known as the Carcer Tullianum museum) and understand its gruesome past as a maximum security prison where enemies of Rome were incarcerated, usually when awaiting execution. The Colosseum is no less intimidating. This oval amphitheater, the largest in the world, has witnessed a lot of dramatic showdowns and barbaric bloodshed under Imperial Rome.
Ancient metropolitans
The Roman Forum was the site of important political, religious, social, and economic activities of the city - from elections, trials, gatherings, and trade. It now contains a museum where you can learn more about its history. The Forum, following the path of many urban developments of ancient Rome, fell into decay after the fall of the Roman Empire until it became pasture land. In the Middle Ages it was looted for its stone and marble. The area has been systematically excavated over the past 200 years, and what you will walk through are well-preserved ruins with a long story to tell.
South of the Forum and 51 meters above sea level stands Palatine Hill, the “first nucleus of the Roman Empire''. This plateau has an intricate terrain and scenic lookout, with ornamentally designed vegetation and layers of multistoried buildings. Visiting these monuments will ensure you leave the city with a deeper appreciation for the grit of ancient humans. Don’t miss out on them on your trip to Rome.
